What is PRME
The Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) is the UN Global Compact’s initiative to transform management education, research and thought leadership globally by providing the Principles for Responsible Management Education framework, developing learning communities and promoting awareness about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The Six Principles of PRME are based on internationally-accepted values endorsed by UN Member States and provide an engagement framework for higher education institutions to embed responsibility and sustainability in education, research, and campus practices through a process of continuous improvement.
Higher education institutions that become signatory to PRME make a public commitment to knowledge creation and education that supports and develops leaders who are capable of managing the complex challenges faced by business and society in the 21st century.
PRME is multi-stakeholder platform with a dynamic network of local and global learning communities, including thematic working groups and regional chapters, which collaborate on projects and events. Since its official launch in 2007 by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the PRME initiative has grown to more than 650 leading business schools and management-related academic institutions from over 85 countries across the world. An organization that signs on to PRME expresses its conviction that academic institutions, through integrating universal values into curriculum and research, can contribute to a more stable and inclusive global market and help build prosperous and thriving societies.
Why Join PRME
How to Join
How to Engage
- Be recognized by stakeholders for implementing the Six Principles of PRME by submitting a public progress report every 24 months
- Participate in issue-specific PRME Working Groups and regional PRME Chapters, join local and global meetings, and contribute to publications
- Support the administrative operations of the initiative through a nominal annual service fee which grants signatories additional engagement opportunities and exclusive benefits
How does it work?
PRME encourages business schools and management-related higher education institutions to become advocates for an inclusive and sustainable global economy by incorporating values of business responsibility and sustainability into their activities, teaching, and research using the Six Principles. In summary, the PRME initiative:
- Provides a platform for dialogue and learning on responsible management education
- Develops and publishes tools and resources to help increase responsible management education
- Identifies and develops thought and action leadership on responsible management education
In addition, Signatories are required to submit a Sharing Information on Progress (SIP) Report every two years describing specific ways the institutions have adapted the Six Principles into their curricular and extra-curricular programs. Signatories are also strongly encouraged to support the operations of the PRME Secretariat by contributing a small Annual Service Fee which grants contributors access to numerous benefits and leadership opportunities within the PRME initiative.
